Endodontics
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry more commonly referred to
as root canal treatment. A root filling may be recommended by your dentist for several reasons. The pulp of the tooth can become damaged in many ways, most commonly by trauma or decay.
This can sometimes become infected and the resulting abscess
may result in pain and swelling.
Root fillings are a way to preserve the tooth by removing any infected tissue and associated bacteria. The pulp space is disinfected in a managed way so as to keep the tooth as clean and dry as possible.
A filling mat erial is placed in the resulting space to prevent
re-infection. The crown of the tooth is sealed and can then be
restored and used as ‘normal’.
Research has shown that long-term success is directly related to how well the root canals are cleaned, filled and sealed. This is a delicate and skilled procedure best carried out under magnification. All of our endodontic procedures are carried out using state of the art equipment and materials including the latest in microscope technology. We will guide you through the process in order to obtain the best long-term solution.
